Executive Summary

Qatar aims to foster a robust economy; one engaged in global trade and investments, and fostering high tech companies — all with the support of university and corporate research facilities clustered in the 2,500 acre Education City. Through extensive secondary and primary research, conducted by a team of experts in Pittsburgh and Doha over the course of eighteen months, we came to understand that women in Qatar ought to play a far more central role in helping to develop the country and support it in reaching its national objectives.

Given the extensive education most women pursue, their ambitions, business savvy and drive, women are poised to contribute greatly in transforming Qatar’s resource-based economy into a knowledge-based one. Entrepreneurship has long been understood to play a central role in the economic growth of a nation, and women-owned businesses are vital to wealth creation, innovation, and economic advancement in any country.
